Before finding Crossfit about three years ago I was the epitome of “skinny fat,” I had lost about a hundred pounds after gastric bypass surgery, but I still was grossly out of shape.  When I returned to school I had a new attitude.  I used to try to find the closest parking spot, often taking my chances and parking illegally in the teacher’s lot.  After I started losing weight I started parking farther away and walking to class.  I used to wait for the elevator to go up ONE floor! I now walked up the stairs.  This may sound trivial to most people but after being morbidly obese for most of my life these were major acomplishments in my daily life.

Fast forward, I was hired by the Natick Police Department in October of 2005.  After six months of running and circuit training at the academy I thought finally I was in shape, but after about 2 1/2 years I was back up to 205 lbs.  I looked at myself in the mirror one day and thought “why did I go through years of struggling to lose weight to throw it all away.” I was encouraged by a co-worker to try Crossfit around the time CFNE was opening in Natick.

I remember walking in and meeting Ben when the place was still under construction.  The pull-up bars were the most intimidating thing I had ever seen.  The past couple of years at CFNE I have achieved things that I never thought I would be able to do both physically and mentally.  I am living proof that ANYONE can take control of their life and set their own destiny.  To date I have run the Boston Marathon twice and dozens of other road races from 5k’s to half-marathons things which I never in my life thought I would do.  I know that if I had not found Crossfit that this would have not been possible.  I would like to thank Ben, Heather, and all the coaches at CFNE for helping me to become a better person and get into the best shape of my life.
