Burke Mountain Academy freshman Jack Blanchard won Northern Vermont Council Under-16 Men’s Slalom Race this past Sunday, finishing with the best total time of any race in the field.

Blanchard, a Dover resident, is in his first year at Burke Mountain Academy and beat a slew of competitors from Green Mountain Valley School to capture first place. The race, held at Sugarbush Ski Resort, lasted into the day as every contestant took two runs.

Securing a fast first run was crucial, but Blanchard struck the decisive blow by achieving the all-important quality run on his second go-around. After a 37.66 on his first run, Blanchard’s 39.38 was the best second run of anyone in the field. (The course generally deteriorates throughout the day, making second runs inevitably slower than first runs.)

When he’s not crushing the competition on the slopes, Jack is a regular at our CrossFit New England High School Strength & Conditioning. Jack’s seen some fantastic gains in overall fitness. All the best this season, Jack!
