Carbonated Water Vs. Regular Water
Having carbonated water once in a blue moon, or at times when you run out of options is fine. However, making it a habit is dangerous. Remember, there is no replacement to pure and regular water.
Drinking too much of carbonated water will dehydratieyou.
Most kidney problems are related to excess drinking of carbonated water and sweetened drinks.
Carbonated water is also known to promote kidney stones, and people suffering with this are strictly asked to stay away.
CO2 does has no benefits to humans (plants, yes) and can create illnesses.
Carbonated water may also increases the risk of certain cancers by absorbing calcium from the body and weakening bones.

I am so bummed I'm going to miss the whipping. Be careful. See you all on Monday.

Anonymous, I was a little skeptical about this as well, but I googled it and came up with a pretty rigorous study that did indeed associate cola (diet or regular) consumption with kidney disease:

The study highlights cola... carbonated water does not contain phosphoric acid. The study even specifically states " Noncola carbonated beverages were not associated with chronic kidney disease"
As for carbonated water dehydrated you and CO2 being bad for you. Total BS. CO2 is a VITAL part of the acid/base cycle as well as part of how your body transports oxygen and carbon in your body (and on blood cells). Furthermore (although I am just speculating here), I am going to guess that most of the CO2 that you drink you then belch as opposed to absorbing.
Breathing carbon MONOXIDE is bad for your (displaces O2 on red blood cells), but carbonated water... is carbon dioxide and not the same at all.
